La Sri Isopansiad

Today was a really cool day. At Bhakti Lounge, my favorite Yoga Studio in Toronto, ( a place that I frequent and volunteer at quite often) me and the other volunteers found a mysterious bag of French books. I had been telling various volunteers how I would love to read Srila Prabhupada's translations of the Vedas (which he wrote in perfect English, although he was born and raised in India) in French! So, somehow, this mysterious bag of French books turned up, which was exactly what I was looking for, and no one seemed to know where it came from, and apparently it had appeared there by accident and was meant to be dropped of somewhere else. So, gleefully, I bought a translation of the Sri Isopanisad, (a small little book with fantastic illustrations) for $6 CAD, and brought it home with me in my bag. My dad and I have been weekly making an hour to read a french book together, and I've found it difficult to concentrate and work on even reading kids books like "Alice Aux Pays Merveilleux" (Alice in Wonderland) or "Les Creatures Mysterieuses" (the Mysterious Creatures - a book about the Lochness Monster) but for some reason, I had the courage to read the first two pages of this one - a book meant for adults - all on my own, on the subway! And funnily enough, with a dictionary on hand, I got through it and understood it just fine. There's something magical to be said about these ancient books of wisdom. I look forward to continuing to work on my french, and writing blogs in french when I can get a bilingual keyboard feature working. My dad also really enjoyed the book and we had a fun time reading it together. Best of all, I'm excited to read on, so I will be getting lots of practice!
